Desmond and his Tutu? Juniper Coals? The City was Skylit? it all went down at Unit 11...

"Durban hasnt seen a jol like Saturdays one in a while" to quote 2Slice from zero31

I shall agree. I shall.

You've all heard me talk about Unit 11  a LOT. Its where I reclaimed my "ping pong championship title"  and where numerous rad bands have played and will continue to do so.

Let me first start by saying... that I will be the first to admit I made a couple mistakes that night...
namely :

1) I left before the party REALLY REALLY happened.
2) I wore a blazer.
3) I couldn't tip the car guard because I used up all my change...GUILTY.

Whats the big deal with wearing blazer to a music event? Please....please...I cannot even comprehend the error, and I really cant get into why I had to keep the blazer on. So lets blur right on.

Anyway, we had 3 rocking bands playing there, first up SkyLit City  ,check these boys out, I unfortunately missed out on their action...so I have no pics of them . I APOLOGISE TO YOU on national blogging.

Then we had Coals of Juniper , who I thought rocked. (does my opinion count a lot? )

And last but never least Desmond and the Tutus , who...lets face it...rocked Durbans face off.

Dusty Rich from I art ink was M.C for the night...(did I mention I won a voucher on THE  twitter to get some more ink done...STOKED..but thats for another blog), anyway he was giving away Hruki shirts and Ramsfest tickets...which funnily enough was won by Jonas... you all know Jonas.. my camera loves him. I love the band he belongs to, The La Els, they really are my favourite.

Like I said, I had to leave (very sadly) after their first song...and I thought the party was at its peak then... it was sweatier than a bakery at 4am...and more crammed than a sardine tin. (Unit 11 you did GOOD).
Anyway so I went home after their first song, feeling pretty darn content... I go home...sleep...wake up...and..

I hear that things peaked liked EXPONENTIALLY after I had gone (the two are not related)... I heard people where dancing in the streets, some girl got thrown a little too hard...(into a light..but she's fine ok..she's fine..I think), Durban Celebs like Bob Perfect (Bob is this your real name?) ,Marty from City Bowl Mizers and 2slice (my homeslice) from zero31 were sitting on the drum kit during the performance and such... Apparently there was crowd surfing to the max?? please people confirm this all to me? So you can imagine how bleak I was to
1)have missed all this fun-ness and
2)to have no pictures of the latter. Im still bleak actually.

Anyway I think this little gig has really put my favourite little ping pong hang out ,Unit 11, on the map. (please note there is WAY more than ping pong going on there...)
PLEASE can you all just be smart and go there....often.Come challenge me to a game of ping pong,I dare you...not.

This post is so long and I did so many link backs I deserve an award.

I love you Durban folk.

Here are only a few pics from the night, cos the rest are going to appear somewhere else.
If you want to see your face from the night..go here

You are now entering the Twilight zone....Civil Twilight Zone that is...

How do you sum up a gig that was so unbelievably amazing that it leaves you speechless?

Civil Twilight are an amazing band who originally hail from Cape Town... oh yes...local is lekker baby.(gosh I hate that saying) Anyway they are now playing gig after gig in the States and are going from strength to strength.

Anyway,so off we went to the BatCave for the gig of all gigs, we had the pleasure of 2 opening bands. The first being 5Fold who ROCKED, all sorts of awesomeness going on there. The other opening band was Fire Through The Window who are also making it BIG in the South of Africa.

OH and guess who was MR M.C for the night? Yes of course...our very own 2Slice who heads up zero31 (your very own guide to Durban happiness). you're welcome.
Sidenote: Dear 2slice...you are the best MC ever.

I dont feel like harping on with words about how amazing they were...but Civil's cover of Massive Attack's-Teardrop  was the best christmas present for all of Durban.

Thanks to Hruki and Gig Guide Durban for bringing them out!
Big up to Durban for making it an EPIC EPIC night.

CityLove loves y'all.

I have this hidden treasure...its just after 10 and if you've hit 12 you've gone too far.

Its a crying shame....no really...a CRYING shame that more people are not in the loop about UNIT 11. Whats this you're talking about? I hear you ask. Well,Im glad you did just ask me.  Unit 11 is pretty much the new place to be in Durban...well in my opinion. I blogged a couple weeks back about their awesome music and their no-bieber-beyonce music rules ( I dont know if this is an actual rule of theirs just F.Y.I) , anywho I pretty much go there because of the ping pong table... did I mention I won the ping pong championships in Durban in 2006 ? Oh wait..I didnt tell you? probably because I never won it... but I definitely aspire to be a ping pong champion. OK, let me get back to the reason of this post. Ok...where was I...rad venue...ping pong...ok yes...anyway so they have stuff going on there pretty much every Friday and Saturday so what Id like you to do is go there...and then tell me all about it and how much you love it,and actually tell all your friends too...because I really feel this place is like a hidden treasure (cough...hence the post name)  and I want to share its amazingness with you. You're welcome.

So our zero31 crew (which consisted of 2slice,dark knight and myself) went down there on Friday night to check out some bands (and play ping pong....obvious). Joburg progressive rock band Dead Alphabet decided to come to the good ol' 031 to play a little gig. Let me just tell you this...they were INSANE...like good insane of course. Ok Adam who does main vocals for the band has got himself a good set of pipes. Highest energy show I have been to in a loooooong time,2Slice was getting his dance moves on so much that he has complained for 2 days after the gig about having a sore shoulder, and if you've seen 2Slice dance...you know he's got moves. Speaking of..I do a really good impression of  a 'dancing 2Slice'... if you ask nicely I'll show you. Right,so where was I..oh yes...AMAZING. This band is hot hot hot. If you visit their website you can even get a free download. You're welcome again.

Dead Alphabet were supported by local Durban band Red Light Stereo who were also pretty golden. I happen to know that Dark Knight rather enjoyed them. As did I of course. Some great tracks.no really. (as if you didnt believe me the first time!)  I will definitely be tracking this band as I plan on seeing more of them.

Check out zero31'S Guide to happiness about whats going down in Durban this week. Including the all important RedBull Soundclash (which I happen to know is going to be radder than RAD,the zero31 crew will be there getting their dance on,well mainly it will be 2Slice but Dark Knight and myself try and keep up with him)

Anyway here are a FEW pics of Dead Alphabet (only a few because I am writing a billion...yes a billion reports for work..ok fine...not a billion..16...but basically the same thing?)

I mean it would be pretty lame if I blogged about them and didnt post a pic or two.  I only had my camera half way through though so no pics of Red Light Stereo...darn it! Next time I promise y'all.

x
P.S: I love my life.

Dear Adam...nice voice.

Ah..such good vibes!

The great WALL OF LOVE....

There really is no need to blog about this other than the reason that these are probably one of my favourite sets of recent photos.2Slice over at zero31 recently did some interviews with  Captain stu and City Bowl Mizers for the Guide to Happiness so naturally I was there to capture some scenes with el-camero.

Let me just say this....the granny in the last few pics...she rocked! The boys hearts were forever changed.

Keep checking back at zero31 for the interviews which should appear soonish. Knowing 2Slice and his witty words..they're bound to be keepers. In the meantime check out the other interviews that are up there,oh and did I mention free downloads from some of the bands? Oh yes my friend...that just happened.

Here are some of the City Bowl Mizers:

Marty was getting in touch with nature

 Too many leaves...not enough hands...

2Slice "ok maybe we can do like a pirouette style dance?'

Marty has got some moves clearly.

And....Captain Stu:

2Slice 'siiiiiiiiiigh'

 BOOM!

These last 3 are my favourite...the boys convinced a sweet old granny to join them in the photo op.

 2Slice "excuse me old lady'

Yuuuus. this granny was feeling the love.
